Ameiurus nebulosus
(Le Sueur, 1819)

Erenēin et al. (1971) record an introduced catfish, Ameiurus nebulosus, of the North American family Ictaluridae, from the Murat Nehri between Palu near Elāzig and Mus near Lake Van in the Euphrates River basin of Turkey. However this is an error of identification for a native Glyptothorax species. The error has been repeated in various publications such as Coad (1991b; 1995a) and Coad and Abdoli (1993b) as a potential invasive species in Iranian waters. Ictalurus punctatus
(Rafinesque, 1818)

Gabrielyan (2001) and Pipoyan and Tigranyan (2002) record Ictalurus punctatus as an acclimated species in Armenia in the Aras River valley although there is no Iranian record. This catfish is an aquarium species and liable to accidental introduction in suitable waters. The picture above is from Fishes of Canada's National Capital Region.
